1. Do I need a driving license?

Yes. Requirements per scooter.

  • 50cc: AM license or higher (minimum age 16)
  • 125cc: A1 license or B license and AM license together.
  • 350cc: A2 license (minimum age 18, power up to 35kW / 47cv)

2. Do I need an international driving permit?

✅ All European licenses accepted.
✅ Portuguese‑speaking countries (Angola, Mozambique, Brazil, Guinea‑Bissau, Cape Verde).
No, if your license is from the EU, OECD or CPLP countries.

🛵 For scooters (50cc, 125cc, 350cc):
Licence requirements vary by engine size.
Carry your license and ID. An IDP may be required for non-EU/OECD/CPLP licenses.

3. Speed limits in Portugal?

  • 50cc: 45 km/h always
  • 125cc & +: 50 km/h (city) / 80 km/h (outside city) / 120 km/h (motorways)

4. Is a helmet mandatory?

Yes – always. Police fines apply.

5. Can I take a 50cc / 125cc on the highway?

50cc scooters are not allowed on highways.
125cc scooters are allowed, but not recommended due to limited power.

6. Can I drive to Spain?

Only with prior approval.
Please ask us at the shop before taking the scooter outside Portugal.
